With more and more schools cutting back on physical education programs, one local gym is offering youth a chance to not only enhance their physical fitness but to teach them about life as well.

SB Training, located at 820 E. Haley has been piloting the Youth F.I.T. or Fun In Training program for the past 10 months and the results have been nothing short of spectacular. The program is designed to help kids ages 10 and up achieve their personal fitness and athletic goals through basic strength training and education. “This is more than just having kids come to the gym and lift some weight,” says strength coach Chris Bartl, “we are teaching them how to make healthy food choices, how to be better students in the classroom and the athletic field and how to make an impact in the community”.

Youth F.I.T., which runs throughout the calendar year, can customize any program for a child based on their level of physical fitness and/or their athletic seasons.

“We have kids in the program who are both in-season training and offseason training. This is not just a cookie cutter workout. Each program is designed to help make the athletes better on the field of play”

According to personal trainer Lydia Kitahara, the program is not just for athletes, “any child who is looking to get in better shape, make some new friends and become a better person can and will benefit from this program”
