New Deep-Sea Fishing Rules Imposed
Effective November 1, anglers between Point Conception and the Mexican border won’t be able to fish deeper than 300 feet, a reduction of 60 feet until the new year. Citing the higher-than-normal incidental take of cowcod — a large, deep-sea-living species of rockfish declared overfished in 1999 — the California Department of Fish and Game announced the decision this week following a recommendation by the Pacific Fishery Management Council at its September meeting.
