UCSB Professor Lauded for Novel Translation
UCSB Professor of Latin American Studies Suzanne Jill Levine won the prestigious PEN Center USA 2012 Literary Award for Translation. She translated a novel manuscript of Chilean author José Donoso, found by his daughter after his death. The Lizard’s Tale: A Novel was published by Northwestern University Press last year. “I could feel [Donoso’s] voice, his sensibility, his intelligence, his crankiness, his polyglot savoir faire with language, and, most of all, his wonderful wit,” Levine said about the translation process.
