Fielding Graduate University Makes Top 10 List

For those who remember using a computer for the first time, trying to access the World Wide Web for the first time, or knowing what it meant to have a Facebook profile, who would have thought these would change the way we think, feel and behave? In a list citing universities such as University of Southern California, Cal Berkeley, MIT, and Harvard, Fielding Graduate University is listed among them as one of the pioneers in the study of social psychology in relation to mass media. Thanks to an article in Mashable, a leading source in digital innovation, Fielding Graduate University’s Social Media and Psychology course is noted as one of the nation’s top innovative college courses that didn’t exist 20 years ago.

The media landscape in our world is ever evolving. Fielding believes there is a growing need for professionals with the expert understanding of how media is impacting human behavior, how we use and create media, as well as how to advise others on its creation in order to effect positive social changes in our world. Fielding’s PhD in Media Psychology is the first of its kind in a School of Psychology, offering a non-clinical degree that focuses on understanding the relationships between media and behavior. Fielding’s Master of Arts in Media Psychology prepares individuals to use and create media with an understanding of how media impacts human behavior. The course chosen as one of the top 10 list of college courses that didn’t exist 20years ago is titled Media and Social Psychology is taught by professor Karen Dill, PhD, comments, “Studying the social psychology of our interactions with media, such as social networking sites, blogs and other interactive media, is a natural fit. Our program, which is the first doctoral program in media psychology, is the perfect place for such a course. It’s gratifying to be recognized by those outside the university and to be in great company beside universities like Harvard.”
