The public is invited to join the fun at SYV Family School where children of all ages can create crafts from 10am until noon. The rest of the day will include: food trucks, Zoo to You, Caine’s Arcade Cardboard Challenge, potato canons, and music by Grass Mountain.

Family School students will be hosting craft booths where children can make a variety of projects including drums, folded books, periscopes, nature crafts, t-shirt decorating, and even a force field. Please keep in mind that these booths close at noon so that teachers and students can enjoy the rest of the activities.

“Family School’s hands-on approach to learning means that science and math are project oriented and often combined with art. Concepts like STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) and STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Technology) fit well with our teaching style,” according to Julianne Tullis-Thompson, Head of School at Family School, “Learning is fun, and Einstein Day shares that fun with the whole community.”

The Cardboard Village is a room-sized area full of boxes and recycled treasures, ready for children to build anything they imagine. This area is inspired by Caine’s Arcade, an inspiring story of the creativity of a nine-year-old boy living in an underserved area. Donations at the Village will be given to Caine’s Cardboard Challenge, which supports the Imagination Foundation. (see www.imagination.is for more information)

“The community has been very supportive of this event,” says x . “Nielsen’s market is donating potatoes for the potato canons, SYV High School’s EAST program is setting up their 3d imaging device, PG&E is bringing kid friendly energy activities, the Chumash Environmental Center will have a display and middle school students from Dunn and Midland will be participating. “

Food will be available for purchase from food trucks, or bring your own picnic. Stay for a special Zoo to You show highlighting the creativity and ingenuity of our animal friends. Wind up the afternoon enjoying the music of Grass Mountain.

Einstein Day is from 10am until 3pm at the Family School campus, 5100-A Figueroa Mountain Rd. The event is free and open to the public. Call 699-5440 for more information or click here.
