Santa Barbara police responding to 911 calls of gunfire at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday night discovered a man with a gunshot wound in the 1000 block of Olive Street, said Lt. Paul McCaffrey. The victim was rushed to Cottage Hospital, though the extent of his injuries is unclear.

McCaffrey, explaining the case is currently unfolding, couldn’t provide any more details on the incident other than to say officers are searching for a suspect or suspects, and that they are speaking with “witnesses who heard and saw things down in that area.” According to McCaffrey, witnesses heard as many as four gunshots, but that number hasn’t been confirmed.

Nearby sections of Olive, Figueroa, and Carrillo streets are currently closed as authorities sweep the scene.
