Four of the top female squash players in the world will be showing their stuff at the Santa Barbara Athletic Club on Friday, June 7. They are No. 3-ranked Allison Waters of England, No. 11 Madeline Perry of Ireland, No. 17 Rachael Grinham of Australia, and No. 29 Latasha Khan of Seattle. They will take on four opponents in a series of challenge matches beginning at 5 p.m., and Waters and Perry will square off in an exhibition match at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15, with proceeds going to the Santa Barbara School of Squash.

The Santa Barbara Foresters, off to a 4-0 start in the summer baseball season, host the Neptune Beach Pearl of Alameda and the California Warriors of Marin County this weekend at UCSB. On Tuesday, the Foresters play their California Collegiate League opener at the L.A. Brewers in Mission Viejo.

The weekly Reef & Run series makes its 2013 debut today (Thursday, June 6) at East Beach. The Nite Moves at Leadbetter Beach will continue every Wednesday through the summer.

July 3-15 – Semana Nautica (“marine week”) began in the 1930s when Santa Barbara residents organized sporting activities with visiting Navy seamen. It evolved into an annual sports festival open to the public around the July 4 holiday. There is no charge for spectators at any event, but the festival’s primary objective is to encourage participation. Events in the 76th Semana Nautica include age-group and masters swimming, ocean swims, flying disc competitions, a 15-kilometer run, beach volleyball, beach soccer, softball, tennis, and a cardboard kayak race.
