The Chapala Street Bridge over Santa Barbara’s Mission Creek will reopen on 1/14 after a massive retrofit project that began last June. The new bridge — the old one was removed — will meet current standards for earthquake safety and vehicle loads, and will come with new sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping, plus paving and striping across the Yanonali Street intersection. A federal grant covered most of the $3.2 million cost; the city picked up the rest.
