The Santa Barbara County Parks is inviting those interested in becoming Lifeguards to tryout for a lifeguard position. Tryouts will be held on January 18 and February 1 at Goleta Beach Park 10.00 am. Look for the lifeguard banner. For initial qualification you must be able to swim 1,000 meters in under 20 minutes on either of the two dates.

This pass/fail swim is the first step in the hiring process. By summer, you will have received certifications including a United States Lifesaving Association Open Water Lifeguarding, American Red Cross Pool Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Advanced First Aid. These great courses prepare you to handle the many situations you will face in the course of a summer season.

The County Lifeguards work the summer season at Goleta Beach, Arroyo Burro Beach, Jalama Beach and Cachuma Lake Campground Pools. The pay for beach guards is $14.00/hr and pool guards is $11.50/hr.

Come to a tryout or just stop by the park to show your support for County Lifeguard Class of 2014. These lifeguards are not just fast swimmers; they are also dedicated leaders that are working to serve the Santa Barbara County coastal community.
