Time to Close Diablo
To paraphrase Bill Maher … America can’t seem to start any good thing, and we can’t seem to stop doing the dumb things. For instance, the federal government won’t do anything for fear of having Obama look good or successful, and then we just can’t stop the drug war even though it has not worked, it costs $25 billion a year, and it has caused historic pain, grief, and killing.
A local organization, the World Business Academy, recently did a study on the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant and found that our neighbors in the zip codes closest to the plant have had a drastic change in cancer rates: S.L.O. has gone from a low to a high cancer count since Diablo was built. I find it difficult to understand how PG&E is allowed or needs to spew radiation out over the county, its rate payers and neighbors, and obviously its employees? I also do not understand how Santa Barbara residents and our leaders just seem to be oblivious to the Fukushima potential of Diablo. Perhaps we just do not know what to do.
Diablo is on or near 13 fault lines and should have never been built. We do not need the electricity. In its 30 years, Diablo has never been the subject of any government agency study on its health effects. Because of the seriousness of its report, the World Business Academy is requesting that the California Legislature hold public hearings on the health impacts by Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant on the residents of S.L.O. and Santa Barbara counties. And, they want the hearings to be held in S.L.O. or Santa Barbara, not in Sacramento.
Santa Barbara … we need to wake up and shut down Diablo before all that we hold dear is ruined.
Fukushima is a ticking time bomb and has been for over three years. No one knows when it will ever be contained.
Diablo is another ticking time bomb.
Join with the World Business Academy and contact our leaders. Let’s make the public hearings happen now. Let’s make a good thing happen.
