The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman hit and killed by a train on the Vista Point trestle last weekend as 26-year-old Mingyue Yuan, a Chinese visiting scholar at UCSB. Two of Yuan’s companions — a man and a woman, neither of whom have been identified — were also struck and injured. Their conditions are unknown. According to responders, Yuan and three others had walked along the Vista Point trestle north of Refugio Beach to take pictures of the sunset. They were caught off-guard when a train rounded the corner, and were unable to outrun it along the raised stretch of tracks. Train lines were temporarily shut down as Sheriff’s officials investigated the incident. No further information has been released.
