Linda Krop’s recent Voice for Measure P calls for a response. Though Ms. Krop says she is “compelled to set the record straight,” she in fact misinforms the public.

She is simply wrong on the facts when she says Measure P would only apply to “new projects.” Per California law, every time a permit is sought, it is a new project. And all oil and gas operations regularly require new permits for one reason or another, including maintenance and periodic repairs. This is why, in time, if Measure P passes, it will shut down many oil and gas operations in the county.

Measure P would open the County of Santa Barbara up to tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions, of dollars of lawsuits. Voters should vote “no” on Measure P.
