194,819 People are Registered to Vote
As of the 10/20 deadline, 194,819 people registered to vote in the November 4 election, a figure that County Elections said could jump a bit as some last-minute applications are counted. That number is a slight increase from those signed up to vote in this year’s June primary (193,900) but a decrease from the November 2010 midterm election (198,457). In June, only about 37 percent of voters cast ballots, while November 2010 saw a nearly 68 percent turnout. (The numbers spiked for the November 2012 presidential election, when 203,994 county residents were registered and nearly 81 percent voted.) According to Assemblymember Das Williams, volunteers working in Isla Vista since UCSB started on 10/2 helped 7,152 students register by the deadline; about 7,800 students registered in the 2010 midterm. As of Monday, County Elections had received 14,939 absentee ballots, or 7.6 percent.
