The Board of Supervisors made a unanimous decision in closed session on Tuesday to not sue the Chumash over the tribe’s resort expansion plans, which include the imminent construction of a 12-story hotel tower. County Counsel Mike Ghizzoni — reiterating comments he made earlier this month when a small group of Santa Ynez Valley residents implored the supervisors to look into a lawsuit — said the county, not being party to the tribe’s compact with the state, wouldn’t be successful in litigation. Instead, per Ghizzoni’s recommendation, county officials will pursue talks with the Governor’s Office. Third District Supervisor Doreen Farr said an update on those conversations will come soon.
