A Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy patrolling Camarillo was hit and killed at about 1:14 a.m. on Tuesday while he was conducting a traffic stop near Highway 101 and Lewis Road. According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, the 25-year-old driver who hit the deputy sped away and then crashed his car near Highway 101 and Las Posas Road. He was soon arrested under suspicion of DUI.
Authorities haven’t yet released the name of the deputy, but multiple media outlets are identifying him as 41-year-old Eugene Kostiuchenko, an 11-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. He is survived by his wife and two step-children.
