Woman Killed in Foothill Road Single-Car Crash

Carolyn C. Gelles, 54, of Santa Barbara was killed in a single-vehicle accident Thursday night on Foothill Road, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol. Gelles was driving eastbound on Foothill Road when, for unknown reasons, her 2014 Toyota RAV4 drifted into the westbound traffic lane, traveled north, and collided with a wooden fence, a palm tree, and two unoccupied vehicles before coming to rest at 4014 Foothill Road. Gelles died due to injuries from the collisions. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the press release said. According to CHP spokesperson Jonathan Gutierrez, the CHP is still investigating the accident.
