Our son, Francesco, is 17 years old and attending Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta as an international student from Rome, Italy. What an opportunity to join the international world and experience a wide range of opportunities. We analyzed the most suitable places to host our son, wanting for him the experience of living abroad, challenging himself with new experiences, and understanding new cultures.
We looked westward, to California, with no doubts. This is also possible because of the lovely California host families whose generosity and thoughtfulness make the students’ stay possible.
At first glance, Santa Barbara schools had an excellent reputation for quality teaching, and the area had a relaxed way of living and nice weather. The school district had a wide array of high schools with appropriate classes to choose from, adequate building facilities, and the capability to motivate students to enhance their potential. The choice of which high school was tough. We choose Dos Pueblos because it showed an appropriate campus layout and an interesting course catalogue, a helpful counselor service, and a scholar system that allowed international students to graduate.
As a father, I’m impressed by the school organization, the quality of the teachers, and the school’s online services, which allow me to follow and to understand classes, subjects, assignments, scoring, and the remarkable teaching techniques that aim to lay the groundwork for a young mind to become that of a talented adult.
Francesco is doing great. He is an A student, and he has met many friends. They hang out, talking and learning about each other’s different cultures. The unique warmth of the Goleta people and the easiness of his school fellows to share experiences and their culture is what makes California a great place to grow. We feel it properly represents the spirit of America.
