In today’s reasonably intelligent and enlightened societies, one of the most enduring qualities is a passion to protect children from harm. Universally, parents’ efforts to nurture and foster their children’s well-being knows few boundaries. Why is it that I continue to see so many thoughtless acts on a daily basis with harmful consequences to children?

Secondhand smoke is one of the direct causes of cancer in children. What kind of an irresponsible parent would smoke while their children are in the car? Raise the level of irresponsibility and place other people’s children in the same vehicle. Who on earth would do such an unthinking act?

Even in today’s advanced, low smog-emitting vehicles, car exhaust emits hundreds of times the amount of smoke and carcinogenic byproducts than a cigarette. Who in their right mind would leave their car running in the garage with the door closed, suicidal efforts aside? On the other hand, what kind of an unthinking, unenlightened parent would sit in their car while waiting for the children to get out of school with the engine running, the windows rolled up, air conditioning on and the car exhaust spewing contaminants into a playground full of children?

Whether it be a running car next to a school, a driverless car running with children inside, or, even worse, a child alone in a car on a warm or hot day, please join me and speak up, take physical action, and overtly object to this ongoing stupidity.
