Goleta Growth?

A meeting on a proposed Highway Patrol station at 7780 Hollister Avenue takes place on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 6 p.m. at the Goleta Valley Community Center, 5679 Hollister Avenue, hosted by the California Department of General Services. The project includes a large vehicle inspection station, large above-ground fuel tanks, microwave transmissions from a 148-foot radio tower, an auto maintenance yard, oil and solvents, and hazardous materials.

Concerns exist about siting a major CHP station so near to Ellwood school, Goleta’s sensitive butterfly preserve, an assisted living residence, and two large residential communities. Hazardous fumes and microwave emissions may pose an unacceptable danger and nuisance to humans and other species living and commuting nearby. Also, the City of Goleta’s proposed zoning code draft was released before Thanksgiving. It’s expected that Goleta will hold community meetings on the proposed code in early 2016.
