Cameron Platt, a 2012 graduate of the Laguna Blanca School, has been named valedictorian of Princeton’s class of 2016. She will deliver the valedictory address at Princeton’s commencement ceremony on Tuesday, May 31.

An English major who will also earn a certificate in theater, Platt was chosen by the school’s Faculty Committee on Examinations and Standing at its April 25 meeting. An outstanding writer, actor, and director, Platt will spend the summer rehearsing a play for the New York Fringe Festival before leaving for Oxford University in the fall, where she will begin graduate study as a Rhodes Scholar. In addition to the Rhodes Scholarship and being named valedictorian, Platt has earned a host of major academic awards while at Princeton, including the prizes for best essay by a student in the English major for every year that she has been at the school.

Platt attended Laguna Blanca from 7th through 12th grade, and interned at the Santa Barbara Independent during her senior year, where she wrote theater reviews and designed an awards program for high school musical theater performers that was implemented in 2014 and 2015. She plans to pursue a career in academia while continuing to participate in the theater.
