The Santa Barbara Foresters are off to a winning start in the 83rd annual National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series at Wichita, Kansas. In an opening-round game that ended early Sunday morning, the Foresters outscored the Derby (Kansas) Twins, 6-4. Hank LoForte provided an offensive spark by going 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two stolen bases.

Santa Barbara, which won a record-tying sixth NBC championship last year, will continue pool play against the San Diego Force on Monday, July 31. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Pacific time. The Force broke a scoreless deadlock against the Colorado Sox in the 17th inning Saturday to win 3-0.

The Foresters will face the Colorado Sox on Wednesday at a time to be announced. Their games are broadcast live in Santa Barbara on 1290 AM.

Two teams will advance out of each pool and pair off in the quarterfinals Friday. The semifinal games will be Saturday and the championship game Sunday, August 6.
