Publisher Randy Campbell said The Independent will appeal Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Brian Hill’s order to turn over photos taken the day a 15-year-old was stabbed to death during a gang-driven melee on State Street in March. In court on 11/19, Hill told the newspaper’s attorney, Michael Cooney, that while the unpublished photos come under the scope of the California Shield Law, the information wouldn’t meet the threshold standard
