Former 3rd District county Planning Commissioner David Smyser began his campaign on 12/4 to replace Brooks Firestone as 3rd District supervisor. He told friends and supporters in an email he wouldn’t formally announce his decision to run until January. Smyser-a former Solvang mayor and councilmember-stepped down from the Planning Commission only a few months ago, saying he wanted to spend more time working as a lawyer.
