The Santa Barbara City Council may approve a new contract with city firefighters offering a 21 percent pay hike and a 3.7 percent increase in medical benefits over the next three and a half years. The key objective of the firefighters’ union was to get city firefighters’ pay above the halfway mark of coastal cities that offer comparable services. The new contract will put Santa Barbara firefighters at that halfway mark.
