A study by Farmers Insurance looking into the most secure places to live in the United States ranked the Santa Barbara-Santa Maria area 15th, between Rochester, Minnesota and Charlottesville, Virginia. The study, which factored in crime, weather, natural disasters, air quality, and other components, gave first place to Olympia, Washington.
