Week in Sports: Karate, Roller Derby, and Foresters on TV
They’ll be hitting the boards at the Santa Barbara City College Sports Pavilion on Saturday (July 18), but it’s not a basketball game. The athletes from Jang’s Karate Studio will demonstrate their art in the Karate Kick-a-thon and Board Breaking Exhibition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be taken to benefit Special Olympics in Santa Barbara.
There will be a rumble at the Earl Warren Showgrounds at 2:30 p.m. Saturday when the Mission City Brawlin’ Betties take on the Ventura County Derby Darlins in roller derby.
The Santa Barbara Foresters are in San Luis Obispo this weekend for a three-game series against the SLO Rattlers. The ‘Sters games can be heard live on KIST AM 1490 or www.sbforesters.org.
Several of the Foresters will be regional TV stars next week. Fox Sports West will play a tape of the California Collegiate League All-Star Game at 8 p.m. Monday, July 20. The telecast will be repeated at 2 p.m. Tuesday on Fox Sports Prime.

The 42nd annual County All-Star Football Game is coming to SBCC’s La Playa Stadium on Friday night, July 24. Recent high school graduates from the North will take on the South for bragging rights. Under the present format since 1973, the North has a slim 19-18-1 edge in the series.

CCL ALL-STAR GAME: Foresters shortstop Brandon Loy had three RBIs and right-hander Matt Hutchison was the winning pitcher as the Americans beat the Nationals 13-6. Hutchison struck out two batters with the bases loaded to quell the Nationals’ five-run rally in the seventh.
