AIDS and Images
Per the Independent article “Less Aid for AIDS”.
Helping people who suffer from AIDS/HIV is a good idea but there is something missing from this article.
On the Pacific Pride website there is a link to “gaywired” at the bottom of the page. It leads to a link called “unzipped” where one of the flashing images says “think with both heads” (And I think we know what the other “head” is) followed by many sexually suggestive pictures. Why is this link allowed on the website of an organization that says it is trying to help those with AIDS? Isn’t part of AIDS/HIV prevention teaching people about the dangers of promiscuity?
For Pacific Pride to have such an ad would be like the American Lung Association promoting cigarettes on their website.
AIDS, like lung cancer and emphysema is a horrible disease and while post-diagnosis treatment and palliative approaches help, the important thing is to make sure people don’t get it in the first place. Less people getting AIDS means less suffering, and less money needing to be spent on treatment.
Why is Pacific Pride undermining its own efforts by promoting the mindset of sexual promiscuity responsible for the spread of this affliction?
I think whoever is the head of the organization needs to publicly address this.Bill Clausen
