Alleged victims took the stand this week during the continuing trial of Steven Neff. One claimed she was attacked on Haskell’s Beach in 2002, while another said Neff had injected her with something and proceeded to assault her. Prosecutors have charged Neff with attempted unlawful penetration of the two, alleging he injected them with Ketamine, an anesthetic. Also read was testimony from a French tourist who said she had been injected by Neff while on a Santa Barbara beach.

Authorities announced on 10/4 that the 600-acre brushfire on Vandenberg Air Force Base, dubbed the Pine Canyon Fire, was fully contained. The blaze was reportedly started by a downed power line on the morning of 9/30 and forced the closure of Highway 1 for more than two days. Many of the base’s nonessential personnel were evacuated, but operations have since returned to normal. No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged.
