TOP SPORTING EVENTS: MAY 26-JUNE 6
Spots are still open in the seven flights of the 51st annual Santa Barbara City Golf Championship. The tournament runs Saturday through Monday at the Santa Barbara Golf Club. Tee times the first two days are 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. For information, visit the City Recreation website.
Well-heeled golfers and gawkers might want to check out the Dreammaker Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic on Thursday at the Montecito Country Club. It is being held in conjunction with Steve Clarkson’s weekend quarterback retreat at the polo club, and the lineup of football celebrities includes Joe Montana, Warren Moon, Matt Leinart, Lane Kiffin and Rick Neuheisel. Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky also is coming to the tournament, which will benefit the Dreammaker Foundation and the L.A. Rescue Mission. Golfers can still sign up to play. Santa Barbara High’s baseball team and Carpinteria’s softball squad both won CIF playoff games Tuesday and will play quarterfinal games on the road. The SBHS boys tennis team thumped Corona del Mar 12-6 in the CIF semifinals and will face top-ranked University of Irvine in the championship match next week at the Claremont Club.
