The once controversial project to re-do San Jose Creek with a fish-friendly design will be the topic of an open house this Saturday, October 8, 9-11 a.m., on the front lawn of the Goleta Valley Community Center. The event will inform residents and business owners about the plan, which is aimed at reducing flood threats to the Old Town area; “Sammy the Steelhead” will be on-hand to take pictures and spread the eco-groovy message to all ages. See sanjosecreekproject.com for more info. Then on Thursday, October 13, 6 p.m., the City of Goleta is hosting a workshop on the community wildfire protection plan as well as a presentation on the monarch butterfly inventory and habitat management plan. See cityofgoleta.org for more info.
