The Halloween revelry this weekend in Isla Vista resulted in the usual silly costumes and crowds of people making their way up and down Del Playa Drive, but also the usual reports of hundreds of arrests and citations — the large majority of them alcohol related.
In addition, a 17-year-old was stabbed multiple times in the back Friday night near the intersection of Camino Pescadero and Sueno Road. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening, and authorities are still looking for suspects.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Drew Sugars said roughly 230 people were arrested Friday and Saturday nights, with the vast majority of the arrests related to alcohol. Forty people were taken to the hospital over the two-day span. Twelve of those hospital visits on Saturday night were due to alcohol poisoning.
Ramped up DUI patrol in Goleta also netted four DUI arrests and 50 citations over the weekend, Sugars said. Authorities have increased efforts to minimize the damage from Isla Vista Halloweens and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.
