Two Venice area men have been arrested on attempted murder charges following a large brawl in Isla Vista on February 18 that led to two stabbings. Jon-Kane McCullough, 19, and Sean Robert Flynn, 21, are booked in Santa Barbara County Jail each with $1 million bail.

According to a Sheriff’s Department spokesperson, deputies with I.V. Foot Patrol responded to calls of a fight on the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive where two groups people — numbering 6-20 total — had squared off at around 12:30 a.m. before continuing the confrontation westward on Del Playa.

An investigation revealed that a 21-year-old who reportedly tried to stop the fight was beaten unconscious. A 24-year-old who also tried to break things up was slashed on the hand with a knife. Both were transported to the hospital and treated for their injuries. Within minutes of the two assaults, a 20-year-old male was stabbed in the stomach in the area of Camino Del Sur and Sabado Tarde. He was also taken to the hospital and released a few days later.

As they searched for suspects, detectives were eventually led to Venice and on Monday, February 27, placed McCullough and Flynn in custody. According to the Sheriff’s spokesperson, the two men and group of friends drove to Isla Vista to party on February 17 and got into an altercation with several people later that night.

The spokesperson said McCullough’s and Flynn’s booking photos are not being released because the investigation is ongoing. Those with information for detectives about the incidents are asked to call (805) 681-4150 or the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 681-4171.
