TOP SPORTING EVENTS: MARCH 1-13

UPDATE: Westmont College will host Azusa Pacific in the GSAC Tournament women’s basketball championship game on Monday night, March 5. Westmont crushed Biola 84-56 in the semifinals. Azusa Pacific, the defending NAIA national champion, is one of three teams to defeat the Warrior women (28-3) this season. Both teams will advance to the 2012 NAIA Championships at Frankfort, Kentucky.

UCSB defeated UC Davis in women’s basketball for the first time in three years Saturday, 60-56, and finished sixth in the Big West regular season. The Gauchos will open the Big West Tournament at third-seeded UC Irvine on Tuesday.

Cate School defeated University Prep 4-1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 7 soccer final. The Rams (19-1-1) are top-seeded in the Division 3 Southern California Regionals and Will face Fulton of Van Nuys in the first round Monday at San Marcos High.

Providence Hall’s girls basketball team will travel to Visalia on Wednesday to face Central Valley Christian in the State Regionals. The Lions lost a heartbreaker to Orangewood Academy, 34-31, in the Southern Section Division 6 final.
