Peter Douglas, a name synonymous with the protection of the California coastline, died on 4/1 after a seven-year battle with cancer. Douglas retired in December from his position as executive director of the California Coastal Commission for 26 years. He was honored by the Environmental Defense Center with the Environmental Hero Award in 2006 and was one of the authors of the California Coastal Act.
