Broken Necklace Prompts Beating
Police Arrest Man for Felony Battery
Police arrested Ryan Tefft, 22, after he allegedly beat up a man who broke his necklace.
According to a press release by the Santa Barbara Police Department, at 1:58 a.m. on October 20, Tefft and a friend were standing behind Santa Barbara Brewing Company getting ready to smoke marijuana when they encountered the victim urinating behind Santa Barbara Business College.
Tefft reportedly warned the victim about urinating in public, and the victim began talking to Tefft and his friend. The victim, according to police, began grabbing at Tefft’s chest and broke his silver necklace, a gift from his deceased father. Tefft then repeatedly punched and kicked the victim until he noticed a large pool of blood forming around him, police said.
The victim was transported to Cottage Hospital. Tefft was booked into County Jail on $50,000 bail.
