Babcock “Radical” Pinot
Babcock Winery “Radical” Pinot Noir 2011: Hailing from the Radian Vineyard, one of the westernmost in the entire Sta. Rita Hills, just outside of Lompoc, this inky, intense pinot possesses all the black tea, deep violet, and ripe boysenberry boosts that the appellation’s tiny, concentrated fruit is renowned to deliver.
The vintage marks the pioneering Babcock family’s return to smaller annual production levels, with ever more attention paid to making very serious and special bottlings, not to mention some mind-blowing clonal and farming plans on the horizon.
They’ll be pouring at The Winehound’s tasting on May 11 at SOhO Restaurant & Music Club (check out thewinehound.com for tickets). Visit the new tasting room on Highway 246 (see babcockwinery.com for more info).
