Suspect Arrested for Indecent Exposure at Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens
Female Victim Says Israel Lopez Approached Her with a 'Strange Smile on His Face'
Police responded to Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens — located on the 1500 block of Santa Barbara Street — after a man allegedly exposed himself to a 55-year-old woman last Thursday around 11:30 a.m. The investigation revealed the woman was sitting on a bench and taking on her cell phone when Israel Lopez, 31, approached her with a “strange smile on his face.” She started screaming and called the police after he reportedly exposed his penis while standing “uncomfortably close to her.”
Officers found Lopez near the pond once they arrived. According to SBPD spokesperson Riley Harwood, officers said Lopez was wearing pants that were “almost completely unzipped,” without wearing underwear, and was only holding a box of condoms and a cell phone.
The woman made a citizen’s arrest of Lopez — necessary because officers did not witness the misdemeanor — and he was booked into County Jail. His bail was set at $2,500.
