Island Brewing Company announced a new series of beers it is releasing for Winter/Spring 2014. The Variance IPA series will be a succession of beers designed to highlight both the differences that can be found in IPAs and the spectrum of flavor found in this style. “IPAs or India Pale Ales, are beers that are known for their intense hoppy character,” says owner and brewer Paul Wright. “That said, no two IPAs are the same: differences in hops, both seasonally and the type used, as well as the malt bill, yeast, water, and what side of the bed the brewer woke up on all have an interplay in the final result. We’re aiming to brew a series of IPAs that highlights the differences that exist now in this style of beer—from extremely hoppy, to more balanced body and in between—as well as the differences that have resulted from IPAs as they existed in a historical perspective to their current day evolution.”

Island Brewing Company will first brew a West Coast White IPA, followed by a Belgian IPA, a Black IPA and an English IPA depending on ingredient availability and the all important cosmic alignment. “The point of the Variance IPA series is to celebrate the factors that make the IPA in your hand the one you can call your favorite beer,” says Wright.
