A 19-year-old UCSB student was allegedly beaten and raped by a group of suspects between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. late Saturday night–Sunday morning in the vicinity of Isla Vista and the university campus, according to Sheriff’s spokesperson Kelly Hoover. After the alleged attack, the victim returned to her Isla Vista residence and notified authorities. She was then taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment and examination. Hoover said the suspects were described as Asian males, and Sheriff’s deputies and university police officers are still investigating the case.

The incident is the second reported sexual attack to occur in Isla Vista in two days. UCSB officials sent out an email on Saturday to notify the campus community that an alleged sexual assault had occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday morning on the 6500 block of Del Playa Drive. According to the email, the suspect — described as a thin, 5’6’’ male with brown eyes and dark hair — took the female behind a vehicle and assaulted her after he had met her outside a party. The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information about either case to call (805) 681-4171 or visit www.sbsheriff.org/anonymoustips.html.
