A $236,000 check from the federal Department of Transportation will allow the City of Goleta to conduct engineering and traffic studies along a stretch of Hollister Avenue in Old Town, an area the city hopes to make more bicyclist and pedestrian friendly. The grant program doling out the money, TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economy Recovery), awarded $600 million across 76 projects nationwide, including $35 million worth for the six California projects chosen. TIGER received nearly 800 applications asking for $9 billion in funding.
