The Goleta City Council voted to approve a 118-room Marriott Residence Inn near the Santa Barbara Airport at the corner of Hollister Avenue and Robin Hill Road. Community members voiced strong concerns about the extended-stay hotel, most notably its construction on historical Chumash land (the tribe opposed the project), its water use (the moratorium enacted by the Goleta Water District last week won’t apply), and its effects on traffic. Others argued it would benefit business travelers.
