Accidents caused by unsafe passing and speeding along Highway 166 between Santa Maria and Cuyama were reduced during a two-year pilot program during which California Highway Patrols were increased. Added safety patrols, funded through Measure A by the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, will continue for another two years with a concentration on morning and evening traffic hours. Also, the stretch of 166 west from Santa Maria through to Highway 1 to Guadalupe will be added. “The safest way to travel on these highways is to follow the speed limit and avoid unsafe passing,” asserted Jim Kemp, SBCAG’s executive director, in a press release.
