A man in his forties suffered major upper body injuries on Monday afternoon after being run over by a large farming tractor and trailer while picking lettuce in an agriculture field in Lompoc. Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to the scene near Ocean Avenue and Bailey Avenue at about 3:40; the Lompoc Fire Department also responded. According to the County Fire news hotline, a helicopter was requested, but the pilot determined it was unsafe to fly in the area. The injured man was transferred by ambulance to the trauma unit at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. His current condition is unknown. An investigation by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is ongoing.
