On Monday evening, Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni reported that the envelope containing white powder was not found in the Chancellor’s Office but on the fifth floor of Cheadle Hall. Zaniboni also said that further investigation revealed the envelope was without substance.

According to Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni, a “suspicious package” containing white powder was discovered Monday at approximately 3:55 p.m. in the Chancellor’s office on the fifth floor of UCSB’s Cheadle Hall. Although the powder has not yet been identified, approximately 8 people have come in contact with the package and will have to undergo a decontamination process. The whole building has been evacuated. Both the Fire Department Hazard Unit and UCPD Hazard Unit are on the scene. Assistance from the Santa Barbara Police Department Hazard Unit has been requested and the FBI has been notified, Zaniboni said.
