MTF Hosts Annual BBQ
Celebrates 50+ Years of Maintaining Trails
Montecito, Carpinteria, and Summerland boast many fine trails between them — the Cold Spring, Franklin, and Romero Canyon trails in the mountains; the McMenemy, Buena Vista and Girard Trails in the foothills; and the Polo Club, Valley Club, Ennisbrook and many others in the coastal hills. While you’ve likely hikes, biked or ridden many of them, you may not realize that they are maintained thanks to the volunteer work of the Montecito Trails Foundation (MTF).
On Saturday, September 17, MTF will hold its 52nd annual fall BBQ at the Montecito Valley Ranch. The event kicks off at 8am registration at the ranch followed by a series of hikes, mountain bike rides and equestrian outings in the morning, followed by a delicious dinner cooked by the Los Padres Outfitters, music, raffle and silent auction in the afternoon. Cost for the event is $50 for MTF members and $70 for non-members.
The morning activities include a selection of hikes starting at 9am from the easiest leading out into the Summerland area trails, an intermediate hike on the Buena Vista Trail and more strenuous hike up the Franklin Trail. Those who wish to hike the Franklin Trail will be meeting at Carpinteria High School. For more information contact the BBQ Chairperson Jane Murray to let her know which hike you prefer at 805.680.5292.
Equestrians will also have a selection of rides including the Buena Vista Trail, Summerland Trails or the Ennisbrook and QAD loops. Anyone wishing to join any of these rides should contact MTF President Bobbi King for more information and ride details at 805.698.3493
A special feature at this year’s event will be the honoring of the amazing trail stewards who have done such a great job of maintaining the first 5 miles of the Franklin Trail since it opened several years ago. Please acknowledge their work as well as that of the to keep the trail safe for all users by buying tickets for the September 17th B-B-Q/Fundraiser. This is a great event at a beautiful location.
