ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE

Burning Man is happening right now, in a virtual format this year. If you need a taste of the real thing, check out this Venice Beach house for sale that includes an iconic “LOVE” sculpture that was built for the 2019 in-person Burning Man celebration.

Created by artist Laura Kimpton, heir to the Kimpton hotel empire, the sculpture sits in the backyard of her beach house that’s on the market for $1,975,000. Every home needs a little love; this one’s got it in six-foot-tall neon.

Need a little decor boost that won’t break the bank? Check out these 17 cute ideas to consider, each under $75. From wall art to wallpaper, from pillows to poufs — like the one from Target shown above — we can all use a quick pick-me-up that’s low-effort and big-impact. Better yet, peruse this list to get inspiration, then visit a local shop to find your latest treasure. I recommend my new favorite spot Idyll Mercantile for plants and tons of fun stuff. They’re open ’til 4 p.m. today with a special Labor Day sale going on. Tell Hannah I said hello!

BATHROOM BRAGGING

If you’re ready for a bigger project, read all the details of Malcolm Simmons’s bathroom remodel in his 90-year-old home, including the challenge of keeping the brand-new look true to the vintage style. I especially like the “during” photos and his description of the mid-project modifications that had to be made. Always a good reminder to know when to stick to your guns and stay true to your vision versus when it’s time to take a deep breath and go with the flow. Potty pun intended.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

Leonardo di Caprio has quite a real-estate portfolio. Besides his island in Belize and his New York City apartment, most of his properties are here in California. He bought his home on the Sunset Strip from Madonna in the 1990s, a mid-century modern home in Palm Springs that was built for Dinah Shore in 2014, and a $23 million Malibu home in 2017. Recently, he purchased this $7.1 million estate from Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Rather than adding to his own collection, he bought this 5,000-square-foot Spanish Colonial beauty as a gift for his mother, Irmelin Indenbirken. Previously owned by Gwen Stefani, the outdoor spaces are as beautiful as the interior, including the sparkling pool shown above. That’s one way to show Mama some love.

OPEN HOUSE OF THE WEEK

For a real house closer to home: I took a sneak peek at this two-bedroom, two-bath Estancia penthouse on Thursday, and I still can’t decide whether my favorite feature is the views, the location, or the drool-worthy kitchen. French doors showcase gorgeous mountain view,s and the midtown convenience is undeniable. Take a look for yourself today from 1-4 p.m., and imagine settling in and making this place your own. 3724 State Street #306.
