Creek Expansion Gets Go-Ahead

Over objections from Santa Barbara Channelkeeper, the Urban Creeks Council, and the Audubon Society, the Goleta City Council voted unanimously on 6/4 to proceed without delay on expanding the San Jose Creek to avoid severe flooding in Goleta’s downtown business area. Environmentalists want the design to accommodate fish passage into the creek, which councilmembers said would take too long to be included in the present project; though they promised that it would also be pursued.
