The results of the November 6 election in Santa Barbara County were made official this week, and while most of the races were already settled, The Independent was watching a few that came down to the wire, where results had shifted from original election night reports. With all the ballots finally processed, we can report that challenger Sharon Rose did win a seat on the Goleta Sanitary District board, edging out longtime incumbent Steven Majoewsky by 134 votes (the other two incumbents, John Fox and George Emerson, were reelected); Polly Holcombe prevailed over her friend Shirley Johnson for the second seat on the Carpinteria Valley Water board by 29 votes (the two had been trying to oust top vote getter June Van Wingerden); and in the stunningly tight race for Santa Maria City Council, Bob Orach beat Etta Waterfield by just two votes for the second of two open seats, joining top vote-getter Terry Zuniga on the council.
